    JEWS FOR JESUS

Jews for Jesus is a ministry that shares the gospel with Jewish people and helps them to come to know who Jesus is, showing them that He really is the Jewish Messiah. When a Jew becomes a believer in Jesus, they are not leaving their Jewish roots - but actually strenthening them. This is because all of the Old Testament prophecy points to Jesus Christ as the Messiah, while the New Testament is the fulfillment of those prophcies and confirmation of those that are yet to be fulfilled.

Why Jews Rejected Jesus as Messiah

While many Jewish people have embraced Jesus of Nazereth as their Savior, many more have rejected Him as the Jewish Messiah. Why is this? If Jesus truly is the Messiah which was promised to the Jewish people in the Old Testament, why would it be that when He came, He would be rejected by the people to whom He came? The Bible teaches that whether Jew or Gentile man's heart is not inclined toward God, but toward his own way. We, rather than seening ourselves in need of the righteousness that only God can provide, tend toward believing that we can be righteous in and of ourselves. The case is no different for the nation of Israel, who rather than accepting salvation by faith as a gift which cannot be earned, depends upon their own righteousness in their standing before God. However, the Scriptures are clear that none of us can stand as righteous before God.

"When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin" (1 Kings 8:46a BSB). "The LORD looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if any understand, if any seek God. All have turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one" (Psalms 14:2-3 BSB). "But Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because their pursuit was not by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone" (Romans 9:31-32 BSB).

The need of every man, whether Jew or Gentile, is to repent of his self-righteousness and trust in the righteousness that only God can provide through the sacrifice of His Son for the sins of mankind; that all who put their faith in Him might be saved. “God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21 BSB). “Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is for their salvation. For I testify about them that they are zealous for God, but not on the basis of knowledge. Because they were ignorant of God’s righteousness and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law, to bring righteousness to everyone who believes” (Romans 10:1-4 BSB).

The real reason why Jewish people rejected Jesus as the Messiah.

    What Does the Scripture Say?

Some might ask, “Does it really matter what the Scriptures say?” While others stand firmly on the Scriptures. Why this difference in opinions? The difference is found in what one believes to be authoritive and the source of truth.

If we are to come to truly know Christ and be born again, it can only be through the revealing of His Word. "And that from childhood you have known the sacred writings, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:15 NASB95). And Jesus said, "Whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life" (John 5:24a). Those who have been born again know the Scriptures to be the source of truth through which they have come to know the salvation of Jesus. Their faith rest on the promises of God given to them in the Scriptures. "Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:23 BSB).

The Bible is the Word of God and the source of truth. "All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3:16 BSB). It is the Scriptures that should be forming our beliefs and guiding our actions. We should not be reading the Word of God subjectively, trying to adapt the Bible to our feelings and beliefs, but we need to be reading the the Word of God objectively, asking God to reveal what is true to us through His Word and to be conforming our lives to the reality that is revealed in Scripture.

"Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD” (Jeremiah 29:12-14a BSB).
