  • Back to Eden

This video is about how to use woodchips as cover for your garden to help the soil retain moisture and become healthier, have less weeds, and grow healthy and strong food. Once the soil is established by this method, it is very benificial and prevents having to use fertilizers and weed killers, and makes weeding the garden much easier. But, it does take time and there is a learning experience one must go through that can be difficult when first starting to use woodchips.

Two things that are crucial to getting the garden healthier quicker, without a lot of problems, is to use small woodchips; if they are too big, they take a long time to break down. The second thing is that when growing root vegetables, the cover needs to be raked back when digging so that the wood chips do not get buried and cause the nitrates to get tied up. In the video, when they tilled the woodchips under, they talked about tying up the nitrates and how it caused problems. You do not want the wood chips buried or mixed in the soil; only on the top of the soil.
